Inside the Homes of Two Manhattan Art Collectors

Loreen Arbus and Emir Bahadir give meaning to the display of their collections

Every art collector chooses to display their pieces in a way that is personal to them. While both collectors in this story are based in New York and display a blend of contemporary and classic pieces in their respective homes, they each do it with their own style. Join Mansion Global as we tour the art collections of media pioneer Loreen Arbus and real estate mogul Emir Bahadir.

Loreen Arbus, the first woman to head up programming at a major television network—which she has done for both Showtime and Lifetime, has an eclectic taste in art that mixes modern vibrancy with old-fashioned glamour. Ms. Arbus, who is the president of The Loreen Arbus Foundation, The Goldenson-Arbus Foundation and Loreen Arbus Productions, is particularly committed to causes dedicated to women, girls, minorities, the disabled, and women in public policy. Some of the art on display in her five-bedroom pre-war apartment— with a wide view of Central Park West— reflects those interests.

The brightly painted walls of her apartment are packed with decorative artworks and furnishings. “It’s so important to have new experiences in life, visually and auditorily. New is fabulous, but not everyone can process it as easily as others,” she said. “I want to introduce that which is new and exciting. I don’t want people to be too far out of their safety zone and feel under attack. They are not going to accept that which is different if it’s too extreme.”

Jet-setting real estate mogul Emir Bahadir’s home, meanwhile, is sleeker and has a more streamlined look. Mr. Bahadir was raised with an appreciation for the finer things in life, including art. The 26-year-old was born to a prominent real estate family and grew up in Istanbul as well as in London, Geneva and Lugano. Now, he lives in an art-filled modern, two-bedroom apartment in the West Village with large windows overlooking the Hudson River.

“My parents injected me with the love of art,” he said. “My mom is very active with the art worlds in Turkey and Europe, and growing up I was always going to gallery events. The way my parents raised us, connecting us with museums and artists throughout the world, I’ve been involved and interested from a very young age,” Mr. Bahadir said.

Mr. Bahadir is the founder and principle of Bahadiring Realty in New York City, has his own luxury emoji app called Bmoji, and just last month launched a skincare line called Apot.Care Paris for Bahadiring.

Mr. Bahadir’s collection is mostly contemporary with some family heirlooms thrown in. “You can see gold frames, bold pieces, brass, stainless steel, I mix the mediums,” he said.

He’s very careful that pieces align, he said. “They all are on the same height and kind of in a harmony with one another.”
